We've been getting the same account-opening questions repeatedly from users installing the Nafa app. This post covers every scenario in one place, so you can jump straight to the one that describes you.
Before we begin, two things worth knowing:
- The backend broker for every Nafa account is Chase Securities. When you open a Nafa account, you are technically opening (or linking) a Chase Securities account that Nafa executes trades on.
- There are two residency flows — Resident Pakistanis and Non-Resident Pakistanis (NRPs) — and within each, three types of users: brand new investors, users who already have an account with another broker, and users who already have an account with Chase Securities.
Find your situation below.

Which flow applies to me?
Answer two quick questions:
- Are you a Resident or a Non-Resident Pakistani?
- Do you already have a brokerage account? If yes, is it with Chase Securities or with a different broker?
That combination decides which section below is yours.
Resident Pakistanis
I'm a brand new investor — I've never opened a brokerage account before
This is the simplest path. There is nothing to migrate and no tagging document required.
- Download the Nafa app and sign up.
- Enter your name and CNIC number in the app.
- The app will redirect you to the CGP portal to complete the rest of your KYC.
- Once CGP is done, your Chase Securities sub-account is created and you're ready to fund and trade.
The in-app step is intentionally short — for residents, the full KYC is captured on the CGP portal, not inside Nafa. This keeps your KYC record consistent across the Pakistani capital market.
I already have a brokerage account with another broker
You keep your existing account open — this just adds a Nafa (Chase Securities) account alongside it.
- Install the Nafa app and start the sign-up.
- Submit your details in the app as prompted.
- Log in to the CGP portal and complete the details there as well.
The CGP portal is the second half of the process because a Chase Securities account can't be issued to you without a matching CGP profile.
But I already have a CGP account (because I opened with another broker)
That's fine — you don't need a new one. Instead:
- Log in to your existing CGP portal account.
- Add another broker to your profile — select Chase Securities.
- CGP will issue an application code.
- Submit that application code back in the Nafa app.
Once the code is verified, the Nafa (Chase) account is linked to your CGP profile and you're ready to trade.
A note on Zakat
If you were previously with another broker, your CGP profile may already be set to Muslim / Zakat applicable. Do not change this in an attempt to avoid Zakat deductions on Nafa. Keep the setting as it is — the Chase Securities team will waive Zakat manually on your Nafa account when it is opened. This is intentional and part of the standard onboarding.
I already have a Chase Securities account
You have two options here, and the right one depends on whether you want to keep your existing portfolio and trading history on Chase's platforms or move everything into Nafa.
Option 1 — Change your dealer to Nafa (Polygot Labs)
Email Chase Securities and request that your dealer be changed to Nafa App (Polygot Labs).
Pros
- Your entire portfolio moves to the Nafa app — holdings, average buying prices, everything intact.
- No need to re-do KYC.
- No need to open a second account.
Cons
- You will no longer be able to trade on StockIntel, Finalysis, or the Chase Securities mobile app.
- The Chase web terminal will still be accessible — but the other platforms are locked out because your dealer is now Nafa.
Pick this if you want a clean switch and don't mind losing access to the Chase mobile/desktop apps.
Option 2 — Open a fresh Chase account through Nafa
Sign up in the Nafa app as if you were a new user. You'll get a brand new Chase Securities sub-account dedicated to Nafa.
Pros
- Your existing Chase account and portfolio stay untouched — you can keep trading on StockIntel, Finalysis, and the Chase mobile app as before.
- You get a clean start on Nafa, which is useful if you want to separate long-term holdings from active trading.
Cons
- You may have to redo KYC, since the new sub-account is opened from scratch.
Pick this if you want to keep your existing setup running and treat Nafa as a separate account.
Non-Resident Pakistanis (NRPs)
The NRP flow is different from the resident flow in one big way: the entire application is completed inside the Nafa app. There is no CGP portal step for NRPs, and you do not need a local Pakistani phone number.
I'm a new NRP investor — I've never had a Pakistani brokerage account
- Download the Nafa app and sign up.
- Complete the full application inside the app — the Nafa app collects everything Chase Securities needs to open your NRP account.
- No CGP portal. No tagging document. Nothing else to visit.
Once submitted, Chase Securities processes the application and your Nafa account is opened.
I'm an NRP with an existing account at another broker
You need one extra document that new NRPs don't:
- Request a tagging document from your current broker. Every PSX broker knows what this is — it authorises the transfer/tagging of your investor profile to a new broker.
- Submit the tagging document to Chase Securities as part of the Nafa onboarding.
- Complete the full application inside the Nafa app — same as the new NRP flow above. No CGP portal step.
Without the tagging document Chase Securities cannot open your NRP account, so please arrange this before you start.
I'm an NRP already with Chase Securities
Same two options as the resident Chase user above — either change your dealer to Nafa (Polygot Labs) and move your entire portfolio in, or open a fresh Chase sub-account through Nafa and keep your existing account running. The pros and cons are identical. If you go with the fresh account, the application is completed entirely inside the Nafa app (no CGP portal).
Moving my portfolio from another broker into Nafa
This is a common ask, and worth calling out on its own because it involves an extra step.
If you are with a broker other than Chase Securities and you want your existing holdings to appear in Nafa (not just start a new account from zero):
- Open a new Chase Securities account through Nafa using the "existing brokerage user" flow described above.
- Once your Nafa (Chase) account is active, contact your existing broker and request a portfolio transfer into your new Chase Securities account.
- Ticker Analysts will provide further guidance and coordinate with Chase on the transfer specifics.
The transfer itself is handled between the two brokers via CDC — you don't need to sell and re-buy anything.
Quick summary table
| Who you are | What to do |
|---|---|
| New resident investor | Enter name + CNIC in Nafa, get redirected to CGP portal to finish KYC. |
| Resident with another broker | Nafa app + CGP portal. If CGP already exists, add Chase Securities as a broker and enter the application code in Nafa. |
| Resident with Chase Securities | Either change dealer to Nafa (portfolio moves, other Chase apps lock), or open a fresh Chase sub-account via Nafa (keeps existing setup). |
| New NRP investor | Complete the full application inside the Nafa app. No CGP portal, no local number, no tagging document. |
| NRP with another broker | Get a tagging document from the current broker, submit to Chase, then complete the full application in the Nafa app. No CGP portal. |
| NRP with Chase Securities | Same two options as resident Chase users. |
| Anyone moving a portfolio | Open Chase account via Nafa first, then request the transfer from your existing broker. |
Still stuck?
If your situation doesn't fit any of the above — or if you've started onboarding and something is not moving forward — reach out to the Nafa support team from inside the app. Please have the following ready:
- Your CNIC / NICOP number
- Your CGP application code (if you have one)
- The name of your current broker (if you have one)
- A brief description of what step you're stuck on
That's all Chase Securities and the Nafa team need to unblock you.
